Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Your adventure begins the moment you land in Tanzania. Our friendly team will greet you at the airport and transfer you to our comfortable hotel in Moshi, the gateway to Kilimanjaro. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for your trek.
Day 2: Moshi to Mandara Hut
- Elevation: 1,870 meters (6,135 feet) to 2,720 meters (8,923 feet)
- Distance: 8 kilometers (5 miles)
- Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
After a hearty breakfast, we drive to the Marangu Gate, where your trek begins. You’ll hike through the enchanting montane forest, rich with endemic species like the colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. The trail leads to Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Elevation: 2,720 meters (8,923 feet) to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)
- Distance: 12 kilometers (7.5 miles)
- Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Today’s trek takes you through the moorland zone, where the landscape changes dramatically. Marvel at the giant lobelias and groundsels that dot the trail. Your destination is Horombo Hut, offering stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Acclimatization is crucial for summit success. Spend the day exploring the area around Horombo Hut, taking short hikes to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Ridge. This extra day helps your body adjust to the altitude, increasing your chances of a successful and enjoyable summit.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

- Distance: 10 kilometers (6.2 miles)
- Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
As you leave the moorland behind, the landscape becomes more barren and rocky. The trail to Kibo Hut is a steady ascent, giving you ample time to acclimate. Arrive at Kibo Hut and rest, for tonight, you start your push to the summit.
Day 6: Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut
- Elevation: 4,720 meters (15,485 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)
- Distance: 22 kilometers (13.7 miles)
- Hiking Time: 10-15 hours
Around midnight, we begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb is steep and challenging, but our experienced guides will support you every step of the way. Witness the sunrise from the summit – a moment of pure magic.
After celebrating your achievement, we descend to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Moshi

- Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
The final leg of your journey takes you back through the diverse landscapes you’ve come to love. Arrive at Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. We then transfer you back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner.
Day 8: Departure
With hearts full of memories and a sense of accomplishment, we bid you farewell. Our team will transfer you to the airport for your onward journey.
